New Years Day 5K

Every year the Charlottesville Track Club puts on a New Years Day 5K.   I had a good run, and lowered my 5K PR.  (Every runner’s new years resolution is to set a PR, right?  Well, now I can be lazy for the rest of the year).  When I got home, I got another surprise.  The good news was that I came in second in my age group.  The bad news was that my age group was FEMALE 30-34.    Ooops, somebody messed up.  (Looking at the results now, it looks like this has been fixed, and I placed 5th in my actual age group).

The race itself was pretty good.  It was below 30 degrees when we got there.  But less than a half mile in, I was already over-dressed.  It was slightly rolling, but a good course.   With about a quarter mile to go, I actually got passed by a joggler.  I have never seen another joggler in C’ville, and immediatly regretted not joggling this race.  (The joggler actually dropped right next to me.  I could feel his pain).  In the end, I crossed the finish line at 24:33.  (My wife was right behind me).

On a semi-related note, my wife got me The Spirit of the Marathon for my birthday.  I quite enjoyed it.  This year I’d really like to get more “into” running, and I think this movie will help.  (I am also going to start downloading the Endurance Planet Podcasts again.)   I think my favorite part of the movie was when one of the guys demonstrated how his treadmill didn’t even go as fast as the elite runners.  Too funny.

Wow, another joggler?! Any idea who it was?

Great job setting a PR already. You may have to revise your goals.

    Happy New Year!
